NOW Working Group Exploitation & Human Trafficking

Exploitation is a widely unknown or overlooked topic which affects people from all parts of society across the globe. Asylum seekers and irregular migrants, however, are among the most vulnerable people concerned, particularly due to the risks of violence and exploitation along migration routes, their limited access to the regular labor market and the lack of legal, social and cultural support structures available to them. For this reason, the NOW Working Group Exploitation aims to tackle this lack of public consciousness and misinformation by raising awareness and supporting stakeholders to prevent exploitation, protect individuals who are at risk to or who have experienced exploitation and prosecute perpetrators. A special focus is set on the local level (municipal governments, local NGOs/businesses/schools/networks, etc.). Moreover, the working group addresses the link between exploitation and human trafficking. Transnational cooperation – regional and international – is essential in this context, which is reflected by the geographical scope of the members of the NOW Working Group who come from both Europe and the MENAT region.

Motivation:

Tackling the lack of information about exploitation and its intersection with human trafficking, providing accurate information and supporting stakeholders to take action

Aims to:

Prevent exploitation before it occurs, protect individuals at risk and people who have been exploited or trafficked and prosecute perpetrators
